Frequently Asked Questions
Here's some of the more frequently asked questions I receive, but if your query isn't covered here feel free to contact me on 07349 274655.
Can I stay with my pet while he/ she is being groomed?
In my experience, it is far more safer, calmer and more relaxed for your pet if you let me groom them without you there. It allows me to bond with your pet, give them 100% of my attention to groom without any distractions and makes an all round positive experience for pet and owner. We understand that it can sometime be stressful for you to take your beloved pet to the groomers and it can only make things worse if your stress is passed onto your pet.
How often should I have my dog professionally groomed?
This will depend on your dogs coat type, but as a guide I would recommend the following:
- Wool coats (eg. Poodles, Bichons and all poodle mixes like Cockapoos and Cavapoos) - every 6-8 weeks.
- Double coats (eg. Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, Labradors, Shia Taus, Pomeranians and Huskies) - every 8-12 weeks.
- Wire coats (eg. Airedale Terriers, Irish Terriers, Border Terriers and Wire Haired Dachshunds) - every 6-12 weeks.
- Short/ Smooth coats (eg. Boxers, Mastiffs, English Bulldogs and Pointers) - every 8-12 weeks.
- Silky coats (eg. Cocker Spaniels, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Irish Setters and English Setters) - every 8-10 weeks.
Why does my dog have to be shaved down if their fur is matted?
Matted fur is very tight knotted fur that is very close to the skin and like a blanket or fleece. It is impossible to comb out and if we tried it would cause your dog a great deal of pain, may cause them to bleed and would most definitely make them very nervous about being groomed again in future. As a dog groomer I must think of the dogs welfare first and foremost.
How often should I get my dogs nails cut?
It depends on the type of exercise your dog is given. If they are walked on pavements/ concrete they will wear down quicker than if your dog was only walked on grass. A general answer is every 6-8 weeks but our full grooms always include a nail trim.
Do you do my dogs anal glands?
I do not offer this service and should you have concerns about your dogs anal glands I would always recommend referring your dog to the vet who will be able to express and also treat any anal gland issues.
When should my puppy come in for its first groom?
It is important to have you puppy groomed as soon as possible so they can get used to and learn to love the grooming experience. We recommend that they come to the groomers two weeks after their last set of vaccinations once they are allowed to go on walks. We offer puppy grooms for dogs up to 6 months of age where your puppy will be introduced in a relaxed and fun way to the sights, sounds and smells of the grooming salon to ensure that future visits are stress free.
How much does it cost for my dog to be groomed?
Pricing is based on breed of dog, condition of coat and dogs temperament. Please give us a call on 07349 274655 to discuss your requirements.
Will my dog be put in a crate?
No I do not use crates at Transfurmations of Lymm. As a one to one dog groomer I only allow dogs from the same household in the salon at any one time therefore allowing me to focus only on your dogs whilst they are in my care.
My dog is old, can they be groomed?
All dogs regardless of age, benefit from being groomed. However age, disabilities and medical conditions may require specialised treatment during the grooming process. Please ensure to make me aware of any disabilities and medical conditions at the time of booking your dogs appointment.
What type of payment do you accept?
I accept cash, credit or debit cards.
